World Golf Village wasn't chosen from a map—it was chosen because it's home.
After years of driving 45 minutes to the original Hair Mechanix location in Jacksonville, Bret saw an opportunity. With five boys and growing neighborhoods throughout the area, there simply wasn't anything like Hair Mechanix available in St. Johns County. Surrounded by 19 neighborhoods within a five-mile radius, World Golf Village was the perfect place to bring a different kind of grooming experience to the community.
The journey wasn't without challenges. The location was previously a dry cleaner, and transforming it into the first HMX shop meant learning every aspect of the process—from permits and building codes to layout design and construction. Those lessons became the foundation for every location that followed.
Today, World Golf Village remains the flagship of the HMX brand. Expanded in 2025 to include a larger lobby, full-service bar, 13 stations, and the Maintenance Bay, the shop continues to evolve while staying true to its original vision: delivering more than a haircut.
Within its first year, World Golf Village became one of the fastest-growing locations in the Hair Mechanix system and ranked among the Top 5 performers nationwide. But the achievement Bret is most proud of isn't the growth—it's the thousands of guests served, the continued innovation, and the experience that keeps people coming back.
